Artwork Description

I painted this in my final year of art School during my time at the the National Art School of Sydney. It was driven by my never ending fascination and adoration of eyes and reflections.

Artist Bio

I grew up in the beautiful, comforting tropics of Far North Queensland. As the youngest of four, and in a small town with a quiet personality, I found my means of entertainment and kept myself occupied with art making and drawing, My mother has been an incredible motivator and empowered me to believe I could paint from as young as 5 years, as painting is her passion also, and naturally she wanted to share that with me.

After my schooling years painting landscapes with oils and mixed surrealist subjects, I made a decision to move to the city of Sydney to pursue a degree in Fine Art at the National Art School. I fell in love with the daily lifestyle of being an Art School Student, being surrounded by so many incredibly creative individuals and mentors. I loved the challenge of the timed life drawing classes, and I noticed just how quickly it trained my wrists and my memory to translate life to paper in different forms. This experimentation with different mark making, focusing on proportion and form with the time-limit, was truly an experience of growth for me personally as an artist. I worked as a life model at Julian Ashton's Art School where I was surrounded by incredulous discipline, passion and respect for not only myself as a model, but also the pursuit and process of artistry itself.

I majored in painting, where I primarily used oil paint, and painted varied subjects but developed a pattern in painting celestial bodies and eyes, as well as animals and small bugs. My reverence for nature and fascination for the natural world became an inherent keystone to the reason why I wanted to paint. I would watch mini documentaries on micro animals and outer space, or videos on sharks. These themes were truly in the back of my mind and wanted to translate my wonder for these captivating topics.

I graduated in 2019, and have continued painting ever since, my focus still remaining on the natural world and the human body. After 6 years living in the city I have moved back to my small, quiet hometown where I find the stillness and peace to enjoy the luxury of painting and being in the presence of ancient ecosystems.
