Ramli Jamaludin or referred to as RJ to his friends is an architect by profession whose passion in art goes beyond designing buildings. His artistic versatility has resulted in very articulate creations ever since his school days until now. RJ's secondary education started in St. John Institution where he later pursued his studies up to Masters level in Architecture at Sheffield University, United Kingdom.
His love for art and drawings filled his pastime since his younger days, resulting in his favourite manual pencil sketching as well as other techniques using watercolour & oil. He likes to capture moments of expression and beauty of images and visuals surrounding him and turn them into a work of art to be shared with others. Nature always amazes him and as such, his creations mostly revolve around nature, in appreciation of the creator.
In line with progress and current development, RJ's latest venture relates to drawings with the help of design softwares. His current style uses Mixed Media approach which includes the non conventional way of mixing computer software techniques and paint techniques to create his art. He is a fan of the Chiaroscuro style of Rembrandt, which is the interplay of light and shadow in art.
He has won several competitions during his varsity days, in architecture as well as the arts. One of his art creation winnings is a 9m sculpture marking the entrance to a city in one of the states in Malaysia, in the form of an abstract Kris and a carving door. Another is a trophy similar to the Award Winning Trophy using the concept of a ship's figurehead that pierces through the ocean conceptually charging ahead without fear.
Apart from entering competitions, RJ participates in and organizes exhibitions. The latest one he organised is with 9 other fellow artists and launched by HRH, The Queen of Malaysia. HRH bought 2 of his drawings sized 1m x 1m. Part of the proceeds of the sale was donated to a cancer foundation, and an orphanage. Apart from his philanthropic work, RJ loves travelling, while doing sketches along the way, listening to music and photography.
