Hidden Fossils

Hidden Fossils explores the quiet presence of time within natural forms — the way surfaces hold memory, pressure, and change. The work suggests stones or ancient remnants embedded just beneath the surface, shaped by age and erosion.

Created with layers of acrylic paint, charcoal, and textured medium, the surface was built up, scored, and reworked to reveal traces of earlier marks — a process that mirrors the slow uncovering of fossils in stone.

The palette combines earthy ochres, rust reds, and soft greys, giving warmth and weight to a restrained composition. Framed in raw timber, Hidden Fossils brings a sense of depth and stillness to a contemporary interior — a reminder of nature’s quiet persistence and beauty in imperfection.
