Blue Wrens frequent my garden, they love to play amongst the flowers then fly back to the shelter and safety of a Lilly Pilly hedge. Here the male has ventured out to sit on the lattice serveying his kingdom.
The soft mauve of the wisteria cascading over the lattice contrasts so well with the brilliant blue tones of the wren. A feature of this painting is the wooden lattice supporting the wisteria and the blue wren.
I have chosen pen and ink combined with watercolour to obtain the softness and texture I wanted to create. On a background support of illustration board with watercolour paper. The delicate wisteria flowers and the background of lattice create an effect similar to looking through a window into the garden, the surprise is the little blue wren perched on the wisteria branch. This painting would enhance any decor and have the effect of bringing the "outdoors, indoors"!
