Sometimes we get upset when the birds converge on our newly ripened fruits, but this painting reminds me that the trees that bear fruit are there for the birds as well as for us. The Musk Lorikeet has a high pitched squeal making us aware of their presence as they dart across the sky seeking food. I love the brilliant green feathers and the flash of red feathers on the top of their heads and just behind their eyes. They blend perfectly with the apples and green leaves. This painting is more illustrative, I started with pen and ink and then advanced to watercolour, graphite pencil and coloured pencil on a background of illustration board. The size and subject of this artwork makes it ideal for any space and would be great in a cafe, anywhere in the home or even in a child's room.
