Artwork Description

Mixed Media on paper

Signed on the front.

I have been longing for and waiting patiently for the Yellow tailed Black Cockatoos to visit the bushland surrounding my home in Central Victoria! On a recent excursion I was rewarded with these beauties.
My son is a keen photographer and together we've spent countless hours persuing native birds and documenting their movements and habitat. Although they were particularly interested in the nearby row of pine trees lush with pine cones, they were more than happy to perch in this dry tree, possibly digesting the huge meal they had just eaten.
It was a cold windy day when we came across them and it was worth standing in the freezing cold to snap hundreds of photographs.
This to me is nature at it's best, unihibited and wind swept!
Countless hours and almost 2 months work has gone into this painting, the attention to detail well worth the effort.
It's a statement piece and would grace any space, bringing in the essence of Australia and the natural beauty that surrounds us.
This work was completed in watercolour and ink on a background of watercolour paper on illustration board.

A tiny Jenny Wren is perched on a palm leaf, holding on tightly with her tiny feet. There is a balance between fragile and robust in this painting. The delicate colours of Jenny with her soft blue tail feathers and grey and white body feathers, plus her orange beak and orange feathers surrounding her eye, contrast well against the strong olive greens of the palm leaf. Soft blues and greens make up the background colours.A Bronzewing pigeon is resting on a log srrounded by reeds and grasses. Its feathers are ruffled from perhaps the cold weather or from a dip in the small lake beside it. Here it is showing off the beautiful colours on the wing, of greens, bronze, blue and purple. A variety of greens and yellows colide in the background grasses behind the pigeon. There is great texture in the form of cracks and holes on the fallen log on which the bird is perched and there are patches of moss on the log. A spray of tiny pick and white wildflowers enhance nature's beauty in the foreground in front of the log.A large Kookaburra is sheltered amongst the branches of a Jacaranda tree and is partially hidden by the beautiful purple blossoms and delicate green leaves.
The brown and white feathers of the Kookaburra compliment the mauves and greens in the tree.
The blue feathers on the Kookaburra's wing adds a nice colour contrast. Two Eastern Rosellas with their brightly coloured feathers of red and yellow predominantly, are almost hidden amongst the brighly coloured yellow blossoms of the Golden Wattle. Some green leaves poke their way through the blossoms randomly. A patch of blue and pink clouds can be seen in the sky above the birds.
