Artwork Description

"This square of river water and bedrock could be anywhere. The location? Three words: flute.siding.branched. Umm... what? What3words is an address locator whereby the entire world is assigned a 3-metre square grid, of which each square has a unique 3-word address. How is this better than your street address? Sometimes a formal address doesn’t exist… what if you want to find your friends’ remote camping spot to join them, or if you’re lost in the bush and need someone to find you, or you’re sending an aid package to someone living in an informal settlement with a non-existent address? Well, a simple three words can certainly help. It doesn’t replace a GPS coordinate, but it’s a lot easy to remember and communicate three words than the 16 digits of a lat-long reference point." The painting was part of the artist's solo debut exhibition at the Moores Contemporary Art Gallery (Fremantle) in August 2020, and this is the description of the painting from the exhibition.

Fitted with d-ring hooks so you can either attach to the wall with wall hooks, or fit a wire across first. A string is provided. The painting is signed on the front, with the title, year and artist name stated on the back. Comes with a certificate of authenticity.

☆ This painting was a selected finalist piece for the Belmont Art Awards Exhibition 2021.

Artist Bio

Ellie Biggs is an artist based in Western Australia. She has a background in environmental geography and seeks to represent the vibrancy and beauty of the natural world in her paintings. Ellie captures scenes from around the world through landscape and macro photography. Her works use these photographs as a basis for depicting the natural environment through art, primarily using acrylics and watercolours as media, and often accompanied by informative, sometimes poetic, geographical descriptions. Ellie's current online portfolio is centred on realistic nature paintings of Australian landscape and botanical art. She is a passionate advocate for sustainable living and her paintings often portray the geographies of nature which humans should be striving to protect.

Ellie started selling her artworks on Bluethumb in 2021. She held two solo exhibitions in Western Australia in 2020 and one in 2023. Many of her artworks have been selected as finalist pieces for display in several Australian art award exhibitions.
