Artwork Description

This artwork is part of the series “The Reds Found New Life in the Midst of the Sea”. The red tones represent passion, courage and rebirth — a powerful colour of both pain and strength. The work is influenced by my experience of living close to the sea, where the depth of blue meets the intensity of red. It reflects a personal journey of leaving a familiar home, carrying memories, and beginning a new life in a different land.

The ocean in this piece is not only a landscape, but an emotional space a symbol of movement, separation and hope. Red pushes forward with energy and fire, while the soft layers of blue and texture hold silence, memory and healing. This painting is abstract expressionism with a figurative spirit, created intuitively with acrylic, layering and bold brushwork.

Artist Bio

Elmira Hooshangi is a multi-medium contemporary artist working with acrylic, oil painting, , oil pastel, soft pastel, colored pencils, watercolor, sculpture, and installation. Her practice explores the interplay of color, form, and texture, emphasizing the translation of emotion, memory, and societal observations into visual language. Elmira’s work is deeply rooted in expressionism and abstraction, reflecting both her inner experiences and the dynamics of the world around her.

Through painting, drawing, and installation, she investigates the energy of color and the expressive potential of oil painting, the rhythm of shapes, and the tactile qualities of materials, allowing viewers to connect with the emotions and narratives embedded in her work. She often draws inspiration from personal reflection, social events, and the subtle nuances of daily life, transforming them into compositions that are simultaneously expressive and contemplative.

Elmira believes that color and art are essential to human experience, and that without creative expression, the world would be silent. Constantly experimenting with materials, techniques, and spatial arrangements, she seeks to push the boundaries of her practice and engage audiences in an immersive dialogue between form, feeling, and perception.
