Artwork Description

This painting is part of a series of three I created to present the colours of ochre. I wanted them to portray the harsh beauty of the dry Australian landscape. For this, I minimised the use of acrylic paint, only using light blue for the sky and burnt umber for shadows, allowing the focus to be on the yellow, orange, and red tones of ochre. I intended for my triptych to imitate the desolate, and isolated atmosphere that can be experienced in Australia’s outback. This work takes inspiration from Fred Williams, Hans Heysen and Russel Drysdale.

Artist Bio

My work primarily focuses on Australian landscape and its unique atmosphere. Growing up in Adelaide, I always disliked the dry environment I was surrounded by, until choosing to explore Australian landscape as the main theme for my Year 12 Art subject. Since then I have discovered a new love for the natural settings of South Australia. My favourite scenes to depict are those of the Flinders Ranges. These compositions enable me to explore the colours, light and vast atmosphere of Australia.
Being only 18 years old, my art is continuously developing as I find my style and experiment with mediums. Currently my favourite medium involves the combination of acrylic paint and ochre, allowing me to depict landscape with the pigment itself.
