Inspired by Hans Heysen, I travelled to the Flinders Ranges to collect materials and ochres to create my own renditions of the landscape. This painting was inspired by a photo I took while there. The contrast between the clear blue sky and reddish earth captivated me, compelling me to convey this atmosphere through art. The reddish orange tones were created entirely from ochre mixed with spreader medium, as well as the white highlights of the hills. The acrylic paint was used for the sky and mountains in combination with the ochres. The use of ochre gives the painting texture and contrast.
