Mixed Media on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

Signed on the front.

“Aren’t we so lucky" Is a modern take on the Memento Mori still life genre.

On first glance, it is joyful image of domestic bliss, a riot of colour and pattern, highly decorative.
An abundance of modern day comforts and commodities are on view: beautiful native flowers, fruit, a can of soft drink , a playing card, a delicious all butter croissant. It is a room in a well kept, comfortable home, with art on the walls, clean floors and big picture windows.

It would all be fantastic but for the giant flames licking at the glass. There is a fire. There is a fire and we are all ignoring it, hoping our little 4 leaf clover of luck is going to save us.
The tension between the happy colours and pop style of the picture and the sense of foreboding represents a tension most of us experience whilst getting on with our everyday lives and pushing unpleasant and frankly terrifying subjects into the background.

The 9 of hearts in Cartomancy is often called the “wish card” . It can signify luck, success, abundance. It invites us to live in the here and now to pave the way for a better future.
It doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom but we must be willing to change our ways, and not ignore the wolf at our door. Let’s protect our home, our environment, and not simply cross our fingers and hope it all goes away.
We are more powerful than we think and everyone of us can make a difference."

Sides are painted in vibrant Ultra Blue and the piece is ready to hang unframed.
