I am fascinated by the variations in colours and patterns seen in moths, butterflies and other insects, and have developed an obsession in capturing the fine dotted details that come together to create these spectacular creatures. Using acrylic paints on paper or canvas, I love painting these moths on bright, colourful backgrounds to create a striking image of nature in a bold and uncommon setting.
It is a mystery to me where my fascination with moths and other tiny creatures came from! I am a full time artist living in the suburbs on Brisbane, I spend my days inside painting and my friends would definitely not class me as a nature lover, yet somewhere along the line I became fascinated with the whole micro world of tiny insects that is all around us but often unnoticed.
I am drawn to colour, which nature - despite its reputation for being mainly green and brown - has in abundance! My current focus is on moths - the unloved and underappreciated cousins of butterflies. Did you know there are more than eight times more moth species, some of which are incredibly bright and beautiful, but hidden from the world through their nocturnal outings! I feel privileged to be able to 'shine a light' on these gorgeous beings (see what I did there?!? ;P)
