Artwork Description

This painting is one of a series of figurative paintings titled ‘Inaction’, from a ‘Faithless’ song lyric “...inaction is a weapon of mass destruction…” Each painting features an animal threatened as a result of our inaction. We need to change. I hope my work shows the amazing beauty inherent in our natural world whilst conveying a message in their eyes that they cannot communicate themselves.

Artist Bio

I was born in Bristol, UK, but am now living on the other side of the world on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia.

As a teenager, I was obsessed with drawing and spent many hours with pencils and drawing pad in hand. The confidence to pursue my passion in art didn’t come for nearly another three decades though, with a maths degree, careers in accountancy and vet nursing, and becoming mum to two boys in the interim.

Nowadays painting animals is my happy place! The array of colours, textures and patterns is phenomenal but it’s also about capturing the personality the way you would in a human portrait. And recently I’ve found my obsession with painting animals connects very well with people’s obsession with their pets!

While I still occasionally get the pencils and charcoal out, I now primarily work in oils – usually on wood board but sometimes paper or canvas.

My work can be found in homes in the UK, France, Canada and Australia.
