I am an emerging artist based on Ngunnawal Country in Canberra. I am inspired by the simple beauty of nature and everyday sentimental objects. My art practice keeps me grounded and offers stillness and quiet in a fast-paced, noisy world.
I have always been a creative, beginning my love of painting still life during childhood in Queensland. But along the way, travel, career and motherhood got in the way and I struggled to find time for creativity in early adulthood. It was during the pandemic lockdowns in 2021 when I found myself with idle time, that I was able to revive my art practice.
I believe art should be joyful and accessible. I aim to create works that are inviting and vibrant, that celebrate the natural world and life's simple pleasures. I am particularly attracted to the austere beauty of Australian native flowers and botanicals. I also hope my art encourages new appreciation of the mundane. I enjoy working with both oils and acrylics on pure cotton canvas, flax linen and board. I also enjoy playing and experimenting with other mediums such as clay, pigment sticks, watercolours, alcohol and Japanese inks. I use only recycled or sustainably sourced surfaces for my artwork and I try hard to limit my art waste wherever I can.
I have a background in social work, communications and program delivery and painting is a welcome adjunct to my day job in the public sector.
