Artwork Description

The cockatoo’s gaze, intense and purposeful, carries the weight of wisdom born from experience. His wings, in motion, evoke the untamed, fearless spirit of explorers and rebels. Though his eye is sharp and piercing, his head tilts with a surprising gentleness, suggesting grace and humility, all while remaining tethered to the ground below—heightening his soaring presence. His elevated perspective reflects more than physical height; it speaks to an awareness and understanding far beyond mere flight. His journey is not aimless but driven by purpose and intent, charting a path uniquely his own. He stands as a symbol of both rebellion and purpose—flying freely, yet always mindful of the ground from which he rose.

Artist Bio

Born and raised in Sydney, Emma developed a profound connection with nature and the human experience during her childhood. Spending school holidays in rural New South Wales, she immersed herself in the tranquil and rugged beauty of the countryside. These formative experiences instilled in her a deep appreciation for the healing power of nature and the raw, honest emotions it evokes.

Inspired by her love and connection to rural Australia and career and education in Psychology, Emma channels her love for nature and the complexities of human emotions into her artwork. Her paintings are a vivid exploration of the interplay between the natural world and the human spirit, capturing moments of transformation, resilience, and beauty. Utilizing a dynamic and expressive style, she creates textured, layered compositions that convey both movement and stillness, reflecting the ever-changing landscapes and the depth of human experience. Emma wants viewers to search her heavily layered paintings, providing textured lines, like stories, to be read.

Emma's work is characterized by her passion for depicting the raw, honest facets of human life and the powerful ways in which nature can provide solace and healing. Her paintings often feature elements of the Australian landscape, such as the iconic flowering gum, rendered in abstract and expressive forms. Through her art, she aims to highlight the resilience and beauty of nature, and how it mirrors the strength and vulnerability found within ourselves.

Embracing the principles of abstract expressionism, Emma uses bold brushstrokes, vibrant colors, and rich textures to create immersive visual experiences. Her artworks often feature a harmonious blend of soft pastels and striking contrasts, symbolizing the delicate balance between calm and chaos, growth and stillness. Each piece invites viewers to delve into the layers of paint and discover the stories and emotions woven into the fabric of the canvas.
