Oh how I love Australian natives! I was walking home the other day, when I saw this beautiful bottle brush hanging over the front fence of someone's house. I just love the vivid reds, the intricate little pods in the middle and all the little stamens / wattle coming out at all angles..
I wanted to really play with pattern in this painting. The candy striped background adds quite a contrast to the black and white organic shapes in the vase. And the black and white branches adds another level of detail which ties in nicely with the bristles on the bottle brushes.
