The EYG FruChoc Bowl is a fun yet classy design, sparking intrigue with its thick rim and placement of colour.
Overseas travel and foreign visitors have increased my appreciation for products unique to their place of origin, especially in my home state of South Australia. Wanting to emphasise support and pride for local business, as well as demonstrate both function and aesthetic, the FruChoc Bowl was born. My experience as a glassblower revolves around the importance of utilitarian pieces crossed with creating unique and interesting design.
Process compels this work, involving strategic colour placement while glass blowing, then 'hot-popping' and grinding to a polish. I intend to revive feelings of familiarity, connection and nostalgia with this bowl measuring 7cm tall and 15 cm round. I hope to recognize the endless fascination around glass, but challenge its perceived delicacy and exclusivity.
These bowls have exhibited as far as Berlin in Germany, sneakily showing the world the very best of South Aussie produce.
Menz FruChocs have become such an icon in Adelaide’s culture that there’s even an official FruChocs Appreciation Day celebrated yearly in August. A visit to the FruChocs factory is a school holiday staple, as is cheering on Mr FruChoc in the ‘Mascot Olympics’ at the Royal Adelaide Show. A packet of these delicious SA-made treats is a must-have for a trip to the movies or a family barbecue.
Multiples available. Price is for 1 FruChoc Bowl.
