Artwork Description

Golden Light at Python Pool is inspired by the amazing colours of the chiseled rocks at Python Pool which is at the end of Chichester National Par, it is known to my family as Millstream. The course creek bed, sand and rock crunch underfoot as you approach the jade-green pool. I love how the reflections dance in the light streaming into the pool and skip & bounce on the surface of the water. The Pilbara region of Western Australia offers such diverse scenery, adventure and landscapes which are billions of years old.

Artist Bio

I started painting as a child growing up in the Pilbara town of Mt Tom Price in Western Australia. My childhood playground and influence was the spiritual quality & striking natural palette of Karijini National Park. It is from the Pilbara & North West that my Contemporary Impressionistic style, rich vibrant colour, love of the natural environment and powerful contrast developed. I am legally blind. I have less than 6/60 vision in both eyes from a congenital eye disorder which further underpins the rich tapestries I paint. Through the strength, vibrancy and raw emotion of my painting I explore “how I see” and connect to the scene I am painting. I adore the genres of Impressionism through to Cubism and beyond. I am highly influenced by artists such as Manet, Monet, Renoir, Degar, Seurat, Cezanne Gauguin, Van Gogh, Matisse, Duchamp, Picasso, Klimt, Salvador Dali and Frieda Kahlo . I particularly love to paint using Matisse /Jo Sonja’s acrylics and Posca pen. I use a combination of implied texture or impasto techniques embellished with intricate linework or bold markmaking to enliven the unique Western Australian and Australian landscapes on my canvas. The ideology that informs and underpins my painting is the connection to & engagement with nature and the critical importance to conserve the natural environment we are so blessed to enjoy.
