After watching a David Attenborough documentary that introduced me to a species of birds called Oriental Pheasants, I immediately put pencil to paper and began to create. This piece brings winter to my mind with its cool colours of blue, hints of mauve with some metallic highlights throughout. The pumpkin background and gold hued hand drawn crosshatch pattern makes sure it is still packing a powerful colourful punch.
The copper leaf frame seems to glow both night and day. The effect it has on the artwork is delightful. The warmth and luminescence catches each tiny metallic embellishment within Wilfred beautifully, cleverly guiding your eyes to take in and appreciate all his intricate detail. I really love the elegance of this piece.
Wilfred is attached to the hand drawn backing with double sided foam tape that gives it a 3D effect.
This piece was made using Sennelier soft oil pastels and 300gsm archival pastel paper. This is part of an ongoing series of oriental Pheasants depicting the four seasons.
