Artwork Description

Wild Current is an abstract landscape exploring the movement, energy and contrasts of the Australian coast.

The interplay of cool and warm tones gives the painting an elemental quality, evoking the raw energy of a landscape shaped by wind, water and weather.

Narrabeen is one of my favourite places to swim and place to be. This is an attempt to capture swimming there on a beautiful but wild day.

Artist Bio

Erin Hourigan is a self-taught Australian artist based on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Her contemporary abstract landscapes are inspired by the bushland, coastline and waterways of the places she knows and walks through.

Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, Erin responds to the colours, textures and changing rhythms of the Australian landscape. Her paintings move between observation and abstraction, using expressive mark-making and layered surfaces to evoke the experience of being immersed in a particular place.

Recent work explores the rugged bushland of Muogamarra Nature Reserve and the coastline around Narrabeen, reflecting an ongoing interest in the natural environments surrounding Sydney.

Alongside her art practice, Erin works as a lawyer.
