Art has been a passion my whole life. As a young child I recall entering and winning a prize at the local art show and church fair. My father in particular praised my talents as did my teachers. Upon leaving school however, rather than choose a path toward an art degree, I combined my interest in sewing and drawing to gain a Diploma of Fashion Design with a particular love for fashion illustration.
As life continued on throughout marriage and raising three children I worked in the area of bridal design, giftware/tableware design and exhibiting my artwork whenever I had time in between family life. I also gained a Bachelor of Education, working as a primary school teacher and creating art in my spare time until life changed dramatically with my husband’s diagnosis of a debilitating illness. While caring for my husband at home, I have the opportunity to grow further with my art through the therapeutic elements art can offer and time to experiment with subject and medium. Most satisfyingly, I am currently evolving into an oil painter thus moving into a painting style rather than the drawing style I used as a long term pastelist. My affinity with flowers is very strong at the moment, however, I have over time painted many subjects including portraits, landscapes, still life and abstract.
I am inspired by the beauty and intrigue of life, travels throughout Europe and the treasured collections I have gazed upon at galleries and museums in my home country and overseas including The Getty, The Louvre, Musee d’Orsay, Musee d l’Orangerie, Grand Palais, Musee National Picasso, Dali Theatre Museum, Musee Toulouse Lautrec, Carrieres de Lumieres-Arles, Tate Modern, Victoria and Albert Museum, Saatchi Gallery and Royal Academy London. I have taken private tutoring and workshops in London, New South Wales, closer to home in Western Australia and more recently online through Zoom as I believe learning never ends.
My home looks out upon the Vasse River, Busselton, Western Australia, where my soul is soothed and fed by the flora and fauna I see and hear every day.
