Artwork Description

Royal Adelaide Show 2nd in Class 6 Mixed Media 2022

This was a panel from a Romance Comic from 1960, the women on the left was the new girlfriend of the doctor and the women on the right was the nurse who was secretly in love with the doctor, but he never noticed her. The panel shows the blonde women inviting the nurse into the party. The nurse is thinking "So that's my competition", having seen the new girlfriend for the first time.

I left out the speech bubble because I didn't want people assuming the wrong idea if viewed out of context.

The original Romance comic use the movie stars of the day for faces. The women on the left was based on Marilyn Monroe and the women on the right was based on Jane Russell.

I've had the work professionally framed with a brown wood stain to bring out the browns. It is a colourful piece, and best viewed from a distance.

Artist Bio

Computer programmer for years, and love the creative process in coding software. However no one gets to see this creative process so have gone back to art. The last few years I have been looking for the best medium for me, and I think I have settled on 2 so far. I originally started with sketching and do like to sketch with graphite pencil. I've now also included Textile Art/Fabric Art. My inspiration is Bisa Butler, who creates life size pieces using American Black History. My calling is pop culture and comic book references. I've scoured a few 1960's Romance Comic Books as reference as well as using some of my own photographs of animals and things around me..
