What I do
I create with much joy, one off hand painted artworks. I spend a lot of time on each piece, perfecting it, losing myself in the process, which is a natural flow on when you are flowing with your passion. I often say to my close friend G, that nothing makes me happier than painting, often itโs all I feel I want to do. He too comments that I am happiest when I am painting, and I think this is an obvious reflection in my art and attitude towards it.
My main interests in my work are landscapes/seascapes and women. My aim in my art is to capture the inspiration I felt for any artwork, and create an aesthetically interesting and pleasing piece.
How I do it
Firstly, I work very hard, 7 days a week and usually long hours. I continually work towards improving my skills, something that is often misunderstood that artists are just naturally good. In truth most spend a lot of time in creating and practicing to perfect their craft, and Iโm no exception to that. Thankfully I love what I do, I mean I really love it, and its paramount that I become the best I can so that this is reflected in my work that I am proud to sell to my customers and clients to enjoy.
I love what I do so much I would do it for free if I could afford to do so.
I work predominantly with acrylic paints currently, I love working with oil paints more they just take an extraordinary amount of time to dry living in a hot humid tropical climate which is why I moved to acrylics. I do sometimes combine the 2 mediums together, acrylics first then oil (you canโt do it the other way around or the paint will flake off in time)
When I am travelling I paint on smaller 12 x 16โณ canvas boards for ease of fitting into my 4wd, and using board instead of stretched canvas eliminates the chance of puncturing a canvas (I know this from personal experience). I then cut out pieces of meranti timber and mount those artworks to a frame so they are easy to frame for customers who would like to do so.
Most of my current pieces are 12 x 16โณ to 16 x 20โณ due to travelling, and I am moving to include much larger sizes too.
Art
I am all about my artwork in a down to earth sense. I paint what inspires me and stay away from following commercial trends. Art attracts many attitudes, from galleries telling the public and artists what is good or not good art, other artists often do the same. One of the reasons I have never joined an art society as they are usually quite stuffy in their attitudes, galleries are often the same.
I think if an idea inspires me then I should follow that intuitive feeling to express that idea the best I can in the form of a painting. I am always optimistic that someone else will feel that inspiration visually in my work and want to hang that piece on their wall to enjoy themselves, that is the ultimate goal, to share beauty with others.
