BALANCING ACT is an abstract painting on linen, stretched linen stretched over artist-quality support frame. The overall size is 152cm x 122cm.
It is an abstract work with the aim of finding a balance between contrasting elements.
The painting has been designed to work both horizontally as well as vertically (as shown in the photos).
In this work loosely painted, organic shapes are combined with strong dark wire frames that float over the top, thus containing the patterns within. Geometric lines off-set against free-form surfaces.
In some areas the paintwork has a runny and free-flowing quality with transparent layers overlapping more opaque paint forming abstract, organic shapes. In others the marks are more formal with greater control applied to geometric lines designed to contain and contrast the painterly surface beneath.
It all adds up to a ‘Balancing Act’.
That also applies to the choice of colours. Warm burnt orange is most dominant, contrasted by dark turquoise (almost black). Another dimension has been added by applying translucent layers of white paint over certain areas that allow colours and pattern from underneath to show through.
The image area continues around the sides.
The artwork is on stretched linen wired on the back, ready to hang.
A viewing in person may be arranged in the Cheltenham based studio prior to purchase.
