Artwork Description

‘Mystical Landscape’ is a stylised oil painting that depicts a tranquil scene at dusk. Trees line the river bank that are then echoed in the water.
The artwork has been inspired by the rich colours created by the setting sun and the textures and patterns found in nature. The distorted reflection adds a touch of magic to the scene.

This painting may currently be viewed at Kims Space Art Gallery in Hampton, Victoria.

Artist Bio

Eva Horvath is a Melbourne artist, designer and art instructor with over 30 years experience in the arts.
Having studied Fine Art & Design at Monash University (Caulfield Campus) in the 1970’s, Eva went on to complete a Diploma of Education at Melbourne University.
In 1998, after a decade spent in archival picture framing and retail management, Eva went on to establish Articall Art & Framing Consultancy in 1998 which she had operated in Bayside Melbourne for over 20 years. At Articall Eva provided custom framing and decorating services, art classes, and held exhibitions of local artists’ work.

Since 2014 Eva’s primary focus has ben on developing her art practice full time and her art has been featured in exhibitions at Studio Gallery Melbourne, Brunswick Street Gallery, Without Pier Gallery, Linden, ALA Gallery Melbourne, Bayside Gallery, Articall popup Gallery, and Kim’s Space Art Gallery.

Eva’s broad body of work encompasses large interiors, urban landscapes, and a variety of abstract paintings in oils and mixed media on linen.
Whether working on representational subjects, or more free-form non-figurative imagery, an abstract sensibility and experimentation with painterly techniques is usually at the core of every painting.

Over the years Eva’s approach has evolved from painting colourful hard-edged abstracts in acrylics, to a more painterly form of expression using oil paints and mixed media, often depicting urban landscapes and the natural environment. These atmospheric paintings are personal interpretations of moody, colourful sky views and the play of shadows and light over the sea or landscape.

“In my art I like to explore everyday subjects through a personal lens and capture moments in time that have resonated with me in a significant way.
I tend to work on large-scale canvases in oils, acrylic paints and pastels, as they allow me to combine broad ‘arm action’ modes of painting with more delicate, detailed marks applied with a finer touch. With all my work, whether it is representational or abstract, the aim is to interpret on canvas themes of interest in a variety of ways, while achieving aesthetic harmony and balance.”
