Artwork Description

The layer of thin white allows the under layers of colour to seep through, creating a complexity, and giving depth to the painting. The interlocking patterns are the determined by the complex interweaving of lines in a previous layer.

Artist Bio

All my life I have been interested in making art of some sort. My training included two years of illustration course at RMIT, where I was introduced to life drawing, which has been an addiction ever since. I did short courses at Prahran TAFE, a few years of Pastel painting and more recently a longer stint studying painting at the Melbourne Studio School and drawing with Yvonne Audette.

I have tried most mediums apart from Gauche, but find that Acrylic painting for larger paintings and oil for smaller paintings suit me best. I love charcoal and pastel for drawings.
I also find very interesting doing workshops with artists whom I admire. Workshops are a great way to nurture your skills and interest in areas you are not familiar with.

I like to paint portrait and still life. Having always admired Van Gogh’s paintings, I like to see the hand behind the brush, so impasto painting, or at least where the brushmark is obvious is my preferred method.

I also like to paint my interpretations of landscapes, and try to express the feeling of being in the space. Sometimes it is the colour of fields of wildflowers, or the rocks that dominate that evokes the most sense of place.

I also paint abstract paintings, where I can be more expressive with colour and shape.
