This is a vast landscape and culminates my memories of travelling extensively through and around Australia in 2011 and 2012 on a working holiday. Hot sand and impossible skies were an everyday sight and today they fill my mind. It is always such a pleasure to enrich and amplify my memory of those colours - red sand somehow becomes coral, orange, yellow ochre, pink; and the sky is so blue it's almost green. My husband remarked that the sky in this painting (which is ever-so-slightly greeny blue; not "just blue", as the photo seems to depict) also represents the ocean, stretching and fading beyond the boundaries of the canvas.
This is a very colourful and saturated painting, and is so much more than simply "pink", There are many variations of coral, apricot, pink, red and gold throughout, and the paint has been applied thickly so it's gorgeously textured and tactile.
