THE INSPIRATION
The bottle brush trees in my garden are in full bloom, covered in bees and birds, and look absolutely gorgeous. In my painting "Ava", I wanted to capture the simple beauty of nature: a few branches of gum leaves, gum nuts, eucalyptus leaves and bottle brush in a free flowing, somewhat messy and organic composition.
This is not really a still life painting and nor is it a botanical painting - it seems to sit somewhere in between with a little abstract for fun and whimsy.
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Ava started with a quick sketch as I watched the birds in my garden. The sketch was easily transferred to the linen canvas with a limited palette of colours and a few of my favourite brushes, combined to beautiful reds, coral, apricot, teal, blue, grey and green.
The natural weave of the linen created by the negative space in the painting forms part of the overall look and would suit most traditional or contemporary decor. The colour of the linen could be described as somewhere between warm grey and pale brown. It really is beautiful when you see it in person.
You can also see the process of how this painting was created on my instagram (however you should contact me via Bluethumb if you wish to make an inquiry or purchase).

Feel free to reach out with pictures of your own space an I can virtually insert the painting for you. I'm sure you can imagine how it would look in your home.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born into a family of musicians, authors, actors, photographers and painters, it was natural that life lead me here, poised at the canvas, brush in hand. I live entirely off-grid at my bushland home in rural Victoria with hubby, dogs and a gorgeously prolific vegetable garden.
I use art to express my immense - well, let's say obsessive - passion for the Australian landscape, which is easily recognised in my vibrant colourful and sensitive artworks. Luscious layers of pigment are applied with energy and spontaneity, often switching from brush to palette knife to provide additional texture and depth to my paintings.
