Artwork Description

Well past the witching hour, when the coals burn low in the brazier and the frost has yet to form, our time is best spent in exploration. Of form, of line, of flesh. It's all the same, really, when your time is being compensated.

A spontaneous sketch in ink, layered with watercolour and dried by the fire.

Artist Bio

Heya, I’m Chelle, welcome to my cosy little corner. I am a self taught artist who has only recently begun to share my art with the wider world.

I spent half my childhood in galleries with my Nan, or with my nose in a book she had given me. She taught me that viewing art was looking at the world through someone else’s eyes, translated by their senses and experience. I have always been a creature of curiosity, and now I seek to transcribe the beauty I see into imagery.

Meanwhile, Pa taught me the joy of insects, seeds for growing things, mud on your boots, and red dirt under your nails from digging for fossils in the back paddock

I’ll happily experiment with whatever materials come to hand, although I find particular comfort in watercolours and ink, and have a huge fondness for high quality papers. All original artworks offered for sale are produced with professional grade supplies. Those created with experimental materials will be offered as limited edition prints only, to ensure the enjoyment of the collector and their descendants for many years to come.

My subjects are as varied as my interests, plus whatever is shiny and catches my eye. My inspiration comes from the natural world, the people around us, the animals we have domesticated as companions, and all the tiny doo-dads and whats-its we fill our space with. Also, dinosaurs. I find so much joy in those little plastic dinosaur toys. Oh! And lego. And did I mention little rubber ducks?

Life drawing is a particular passion, and a subject which allows me free rein to explore form with expressive linework, loosely flowing colour, and layers of texture.

If I could ever manage to combine life drawing with a visit to the age of the dinosaurs, I would be one very happy little vegemite.
