Artwork Description

This work depicts the Goddess Artemis (Diana), goddess of hunting, dogs, wild animals, forests and nature. When Acteon spied on her bathing, she turned him into a stag and he was then hunted by his own dogs. The underlying action can be read as the defence of our natural world. This painting is inspired by the work of the Dutch master, Peter Paul Rubens.

Eveline is a Dutch-born artist who grew up in rural Western Australia. Her paintings intertwine a love of nature and the luminous qualities of oil paint and are woven with themes of empathy, transformation and human-animal relationships. Eveline trained in Visual Arts at Edith Cowan University (Bachelor of Contemporary Arts graduate 2020) and was awarded the Louise Macfie Painting Prize in 2019.
