I didn't know much about Gladys Berejiklian. However I grew to know her during the recent COVID outbreak thanks to the daily NSW government's press conferences. I found her to be hard working and dedicated. She was strong, calm and compassionate in the face of the spread of the epidemic and in the face of journalists' questions; she did not have the usual politician's rhetoric or evasive responses, but more straightforward answers. Under her leadership, NSW has finally emerged from the shadow of the outbreak. This is the reason why I painted this portrait.
