Gum trees

When I arrived in Australia 30 years ago, I saw gum trees for the first time. I gradually learned that gum trees are not only used by Aboriginal people in many different ways over the years but they are iconic in the Australian landscape. From my visual perspective, I like its tall, towering posture, its sturdy white trunks, and dense, slender leaves fluttering in the wind. It is these features and its symbolism that make me interested in making this series of work.
