Conclave

This group of objects is inspired by the formal, centralized compositions of artists like Jude Rae and William Bailey. I chose objects with different textures - metal, glass, wood, ceramic - to give a rich variety for the eye to dwell on. As for the title - well, it seemed a gathering of serious objects, one capable of making weighty decisions.

Fiona has been painting for about 20 years - ever since she stopped being a lawyer. What started as a hobby became a passion and she is now a full time artist, art student and mother. She generally works in oil on canvas and her subject focus tends to be still life. Finding compositions that allow groups of objects to transcend their every day nature and to become something sublime is an endless source of excitement and joy. She enjoys exploring still life's rich tradition of finding new ways to look at familiar objects often allowing them to speak as metaphors for broader subjects.
