Terracotta Scumble

'Terracotta Scumble' is a study in refined simplicity, focusing on the tactile relationship between bold, organic shapes and a sophisticated, muted colour palette. Grounded by a heavy terracotta form, the composition rises into a series of balancing ochre and moss toned elements. The interplay of the crisp white geometry against the deep, dark voids creates a sense of "quiet strength" and visual equilibrium.
The finish is intentionally matte, allowing the subtle textures of the application to shine without the distraction of glare making it an ideal focal point for a space designed for calm and reflection.
My work for this piece is heavily rooted in the Mid-Century Modern aesthetic, drawing inspiration from the era’s commitment to "less is more." I am deeply influenced by the structural balance found in 1950s graphic design and the sculptural, earthy abstractions of the modernist movement.
By utilising bold shapes and a palette of muted, nature inspired hues, I aim to bridge the gap between architectural structure and organic fluidity. This painting is a celebration of the essential, stripping away the unnecessary to find beauty in form, colour, and the harmony of a well balanced composition.
