I created this large-scale painting to capture a playful yet grounding conversation between form, colour, and repetitive pattern. The composition is divided into three distinct, connected visual panels, each anchored by prominent, organic pod-like shapes. I used a warm palette of rich terracotta orange, deep earth brown, and olive green, contrasting them against dark midnight blue voids and crisp, off-white segments. What brings this piece to life for me is the intricate, tactile mark-making. I hand-painted hundreds of fine, rhythmic vertical dashes and delicate linework across the shapes to evoke the feeling of falling rain and woven textiles. I used heavy black outlining to give the final composition a modern, graphic edge while maintaining a raw, primitive energy. I am heavily influenced by the raw textures of mid-century abstract expressionism and modern textile design. For this piece, my inspiration stems from the concept of compartmentalized thoughts and interconnected relationships—how separate, distinct ideas or individuals can exist in their own space yet still share a cohesive, underlying story.
