The Uros are an indigenous people of Peru and Bolivia. I was very impressed when I visited Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake, and saw their floating islands. They make these floating islands themselves, using totora reeds that grow abundantly in the shallows of the lake. There are about 120 floating islands, including this school. Kids travel to this school every day by boat, for some of them it's a long journey. Education, together with love, is the key ingredient for the future of a child, so to me a floating school is a symbol of hope and resilience.
