Artwork Description

in this elegant graphite drawing, Madonna emerges from the page with quiet reverence and sculptural clarity. Inspired by classical cast studies, this work captures the soft melancholy of the Madonna’s face, her gaze gently lowered, shrouded in shadow, yet full of presence.

The striking contrast between light and deep shadow creates a contemplative mood—one that evokes themes of serenity, introspection, and timeless beauty. The folds of the drapery are rendered with subtle restraint, guiding the eye downward to a face that feels both human and divine.

Rooted in the academic tradition of classical realism, this piece is more than a technical study—it is a poetic exploration of stillness and emotion through the language of form and tone.

A refined and soulful addition to any serious collection, Madonna speaks to lovers of figurative drawing, sacred iconography, and masterful draftsmanship.

Artist Bio

Florencia Martin is an Argentinian/Australian visual artist based in South Fremantle. She is devoted to the quiet complexity of the human form, working primarily in oil and graphite. Her practice is rooted in classical tradition, shaped by a year studying at the Seattle atelier of Juliette Aristides and ongoing online studies through New York’s Grand Central Atelier.
Guided by a reverence for light, structure, and the inner life of her subjects, her portraits look not only for likeness, but presence — a sense of stillness that invites reflection. Through disciplined technique and attentive observation, she draws from the past to speak to something enduring in the present.
