Artwork Description

Study of a Torso is a study of the human form through the lens of classical sculpture. Drawn from a cast of an ancient male torso, this work masterfully captures the weight, rhythm, and musculature of the fragmented body. The absence of head and limbs draws the viewer’s focus to the expressive architecture of the back—its curves, shadows, and volume rendered with striking precision.

The warm, toned paper adds a timeless atmosphere, evoking aged marble and sunlit stone, while the interplay of soft transitions and deep shadows infuses the drawing with sculptural life. Each contour whispers of antiquity and endurance, of beauty shaped by centuries.

This piece speaks to collectors who value the discipline of academic drawing, the elegance of reduction, and the poetic silence found in classical ruins. A striking addition to a gallery wall, study, or contemplative space.

Artist Bio

Florencia Martin is an Argentinian/Australian visual artist based in South Fremantle. She is devoted to the quiet complexity of the human form, working primarily in oil and graphite. Her practice is rooted in classical tradition, shaped by a year studying at the Seattle atelier of Juliette Aristides and ongoing online studies through New York’s Grand Central Atelier.
Guided by a reverence for light, structure, and the inner life of her subjects, her portraits look not only for likeness, but presence — a sense of stillness that invites reflection. Through disciplined technique and attentive observation, she draws from the past to speak to something enduring in the present.
