Supurb quality Giclee Print on 250gsm Museo Max

Description

It was fitting that such a quintessential Australian bird be finished on Australia day - 26 January, 2015.

I've wanted to tackle a pied bird for sometime. One gets a bit tired of constantly painting bright colours. It was interesting to discover that the "black" in magpie plumage does have a lovely dark green iridescence! Magpies are a difficult shape to get right, as they are very rhombic in their anatomy. Most birds are a series of ovals.

I think all true Aussies have at one time been swooped by one of these! But their carolling song (often sung as a duet) is truly one of the most beautiful sounds of all birds.
Magpies come in many races and plumage variations. I've shown the "black-backed" nominate race.
