Daddy Emu and chicks. Mt Robinson overlooking Mt McHarry & Karajini N/P WA

We have camped at Mt Robinson about 4 times and it is a fabulous spot with panoramic views. The view is from near the top of Mt Robinson. I started this work but was not quite happy with it as it had something missing and after much thought I decided that Daddy Emu and his chicks had to be a part of it. He is such an Aussie iconic bird as he sits on the eggs, hatches them and then cares for the chicks. He can also be such a silly bird and sometimes stupid as we have had experiences of him and the chicks on outback bush tracts running in front of the vehicle for kms before deciding to head into the bush with the chicks. I had to laugh at the antics.

My journey with painting started many years ago when Yurarra was set up in a little old barn on a property in Thornlands doing portrait work. Robert Barnes t from The Art College came to the group, we just could not get there quick enough each week to see what challenge he would bring to us that day. In 6 weeks he had us painting portraits that were incredible pieces of work. His encouragement got me to The Art College.

I have always loved the Australian landscape, the ocean, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, forests, mountainous terrains and deserts. I love the use of bright colours, varying shapes and am always amazed to see the imagery that will arise from the work. To me the landscape is a live, living spirit that speaks to you when you stop long enough to listen.

Life’s journey has helped me develop my beliefs about life experiences as only “my truth” as nothing in life is as it appears to be. A difficult belief to live by, habit dictates that I keep falling back into my old belief systems
