Artwork Description

I started this work to somehow depict our trip around Australia. An area of Realism suddenly changed to areas of varying shapes and colours that made me feel very excited about what was happening. I allowed the work to tell me what I was to do. When completed I saw many images that showed the focus of the areas we had travelled and images that I saw. There are also images of past works of my journey into the landscape that amazed me. One especially is on the left hand side of the work that is dark blue and snakelike that to me symbolises “The River of Life and Spirituality”. I think that you will find it an exciting work to explore and see what it tells you about your life.

Artist Bio

MY PHILOSOPHY IS: LIFE IS A JOURNEY AND NOTHING IN LIFE IS AS IT APPEARS TO BE.

My journey with painting started many years ago when Yurarra was set up in a little old barn on a property in Thornlands doing portrait work. Robert Barnes t from The Art College came to the group, we just could not get there quick enough each week to see what challenge he would bring to us that day. In 6 weeks he had us painting portraits that were incredible pieces of work. His encouragement got me to The Art College.

I have always loved the Australian landscape, the ocean, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, forests, mountainous terrains and deserts. I love the use of bright colours, varying shapes and am always amazed to see the imagery that will arise from the work. To me the landscape is a live, living spirit that speaks to you when you stop long enough to listen.

Life’s journey has helped me develop my beliefs about life experiences as only “my truth” as nothing in life is as it appears to be. A difficult belief to live by, habit dictates that I keep falling back into my old belief systems
