Frank Short was born on November 10th, 1955 in Melbourne. Throughout his working life, he has had various experiences in the business world, working various jobs and owning his own businesses.
About 20 years ago, Frank discovered his love of art and decided to pursue it further. He took lessons at East Gippsland TAFE and later at RMIT in Melbourne. As part of his studies, one of his works was selected to be sent to Vienna, Austria for an exhibition and charity auction sale. He donated the work. Frank enjoys working with oil paint, as it allows him to add depth to the color by loading the canvas. He particularly enjoys using a palette knife to produce magnificent effects. Before moving to Queensland over 2 years ago, he had created several large commission works for friends and business associates to install in their homes and commercial buildings.
Upon arriving in Surfers Paradise, Frank set up a studio in Southport and began exploring abstract type painting in acrylic, resin and impasto. He has attempted different techniques and styles over the past couple of years and is inspired by the works of John Beckley (France) and Gerhard Richter (Germany).
Frank has been commissioned to create works for private clients, including the Black large canvas shown on the Art 7 Gallery website, which is over 3 meters wide and 2 meters deep. He is also the in-house artist for Art 7 Gallery, where he works with the director of the Coomera Anglican College to set up exhibitions and enhance the love of art and expression among teachers and students.
With the support of Art 7 Gallery and his studio on the premises, Frank has the flexibility to create modern and exciting works for sale and as part of his experimentation with materials and effects. He has also produced a few sculptures, but still loves the freedom of painting and the abstract style, which allows him to splash color and create illusions to stimulate the mind and bring joy to the heart when viewed.
