Artwork Description

Chromaphase is part of my Haloform series, a body of work in which I explore fluid transformation, atmospheric movement and the emergence of luminous forms from darkness.

In this piece, vivid flashes of electric green, turquoise, violet and magenta move through deep, shadowed layers. I wanted the composition to feel like an otherworldly terrain caught in motion, as though its surface is continually dissolving and reforming. Soft cellular blooms sit alongside sharper currents and fractured passages, creating a balance between delicacy and intensity.

The brighter pigments appear to pulse through the darker strata, giving the work a sense of depth, energy and suspended transformation. For me, Chromaphase captures a moment of change: a shifting state in which colour, movement and form seem briefly illuminated before becoming something new.

Artist Bio

Gabrielle Lawson – Artist Biography
Magill, South Australia

Gabrielle Lawson is a multidisciplinary artist based in South Australia, working from her home studio where she has been actively developing her creative practice over the past two years. Guided by intuition and curiosity, her work embraces exploration across mediums and techniques, allowing each piece to emerge organically through experimentation and discovery.

Her practice spans vibrant abstract compositions as well as more contemplative, detail-driven works, unified by a playful yet thoughtful approach to colour, movement, and emotional expression. Each artwork represents a moment within an ongoing personal and artistic journey, reflecting both spontaneity and introspection.

Outside the studio, Gabrielle finds inspiration in quiet rituals and imaginative worlds — spending time with her cat Coco, reading, and immersing herself in the rich visual narratives of Final Fantasy. These influences subtly inform her love of storytelling, atmosphere, and expressive form.

Her studio serves as both sanctuary and creative laboratory, a space dedicated to experimentation, reflection, and growth. Gabrielle welcomes connection with fellow artists, collectors, and those who feel drawn to the joy, curiosity, and magic of making art.
