Artwork Description

Pelagic Aperture evokes the moment a vast expanse quietly opens, revealing luminous forces beneath a tranquil surface. Bands of blue, coral, ivory, and warm ochre flow in layered strata, suggesting both oceanic depth and atmospheric distance. The composition moves like shifting currents or tectonic plates suspended in slow motion, balancing serenity with latent tension.

Fluorescent reds embedded within the paint remain subdued in daylight but awaken in darkness and under ultraviolet light, transforming the work into a second state of presence. This concealed radiance suggests energy held in reserve — bioluminescence in deep water or heat beneath the earth’s crust.

Part of the Luminous Fractures series, the work explores rupture as revelation: an opening through which hidden light becomes perceptible.

Artist Bio

Gabrielle Lawson – Artist Biography
Magill, South Australia

Gabrielle Lawson is a multidisciplinary artist based in South Australia, working from her home studio where she has been actively developing her creative practice over the past two years. Guided by intuition and curiosity, her work embraces exploration across mediums and techniques, allowing each piece to emerge organically through experimentation and discovery.

Her practice spans vibrant abstract compositions as well as more contemplative, detail-driven works, unified by a playful yet thoughtful approach to colour, movement, and emotional expression. Each artwork represents a moment within an ongoing personal and artistic journey, reflecting both spontaneity and introspection.

Outside the studio, Gabrielle finds inspiration in quiet rituals and imaginative worlds — spending time with her cat Coco, reading, and immersing herself in the rich visual narratives of Final Fantasy. These influences subtly inform her love of storytelling, atmosphere, and expressive form.

Her studio serves as both sanctuary and creative laboratory, a space dedicated to experimentation, reflection, and growth. Gabrielle welcomes connection with fellow artists, collectors, and those who feel drawn to the joy, curiosity, and magic of making art.
