The Golden Ratio

The Golden Ratio, Phi, is used extensively in Geometry and certainly provides an aesthetically pleasing rectangle. All the chatter of being a kind of all super ratio that Da Vinci used on the Mona Lisa, the Egyptians used on the great Pyramids or nature itself uses extensively in the construction of lowers or shells are not borne out by reality. From medieval times a sort of social media misinformation campaign has lifted this ratio to stratospheric, if undeserved, heights.

I am an outsider artist who has been painting modern / contemporary style art with acrylics for over 25 years, whilst balancing the responsibilities of work, parenting and home life. Through the creation of over 100 paintings I have been exploring art as a medium for protest, emotional expression and personal interaction.
For the past few years I have been delving into the disconnect between our modern lives and nature. As machines and computers increasingly dominate our lives we increasingly shrink further into our rectangular boxes in our growing urban environments, along the way losing nature, interconnection and community
The subjects of my paintings are mostly from the natural world of people, plants and animals. These are contrasted by the use of pure, vivid paint colours that reflect the stark and bright colours of LED lights.
