Artist Bio

Gary Broley is an emerging artist, who only found the joy of painting full time retirement in his early 60’s, and is now enjoying creating colourful and vibrant abstract pieces in his home studio in Melbourne’s southeast. He concentrates mainly working with acrylics on canvas (or MDF board). His paintings are sometimes moody and can also be colourful and vibrant revealing strong detail in layering which encourages viewers to dwell and experience these very personal spaces. He has recently expanded his knowledge through international on-line classes and is looking to find some local support and guidance from existing like-minded artists.

Having grown up in the UK’s rolling countryside and emigrated to Australia with his incredibly supportive and loving wife and children in the Mid 90’s, Gary now identifies his painting is inspired mainly by the natural world, by the ebb and flow of its energy, light and emotional power. As an emerging artist he is enjoying exploring all manner of using paint but finds true personal fulfilment with his abstract layering, scraping, manipulating and heavy brushwork creations.

As a committed recycler, Gary also reuses natural resources to their most economical, and to that end he sometimes paints over existing (unwanted) prints and paintings (purchased from second-hand shops or markets). In many he intentionally leaves some of the original work to show through, to speak in conjunction with the new works voice.

Some of Garys other work is inspired by his commitment to his ongoing passion of diversity and inclusion fostering an inclusive environment, with respect and equality for all.
