Artist Bio

I am an expressive, intuitive abstract painter working mainly with oil paint, cold wax media and oil sticks. The painting process intrigues and inspires me. I love experimenting with colour and gestural mark making.

My process starts with a simple composition sketch, a limited palette of colours to create harmony and then a random loose underpainting to hide the white surface. I build up many layers responding to the bold gestural marks I make. These can be fine detailed marks or big gestural ones. I try to not to be analytical and allow my intuition to rule. At some point I feel the painting resolving; there is the right balance and variation between all the elements of tone, detail, colour contrast, harmony shapes and lines.

I am located in Sandy Bay Tasmania Australia, overlooking the Derwent River.
