Artwork Description

This depicts my sense of warmth, rhythm and connection, where soft pink fibres move across the surface in gently beating pulses. The open structure allows light and space to move through the work, creating a sense of warmth that seems to emanate beyond its physical form.

Pink Pulse is connected to the rhythm of the heart and the quiet, sustaining forces of nurturing and love. The repeated waves suggest a pulse β€” an energy that emanates outward, carrying warmth. Rather than depicting love literally, the work explores how it might feel: rhythmic, expansive and quietly powerful. The textural effect of the mohair consolidates the feeling.

Artist Bio

Gemma Rubina Sarmiento is a Bendigo-based, self-taught textile artist whose practice explores vibration, rhythm and energy through woven and stitched form. Drawing on a background in health science, her work is informed by a deep understanding of the relationship between the body, the senses and environment, translating unseen subtleties into tactile abstract compositions. Through intuitive material processes, Gemma investigates resonance, flow and restoration through sensation and perception by interpreting traditional textile techniques with fresh appeal.
