Artwork Description

The yellow jug, a vintage kookaburra kettle once used to boil water for tea, is now an excellent vase. Imbued with the lives of the people who have held it before me and the very different world it was created in, the jug takes on a persona, perhaps theirs, possibly mine, or maybe, yours. It has its own, intimate relationship with the flowers that it holds and in turn, with the landscape that holds it. The images are allegories of love, lust and loss.

Artist Bio

Born in 1970’s Australia, Genevieve was raised on art and the landscape. “There were other things, but these made my heart swell and my imagination overflow”
Discovering a natural affinity with the camera at 15, Genevieve studied at the Australian Centre for Photography during her high school years and well into her twenties. On completing her HSC, she was hired by the Australian Newspaper but after a short while turned to Fine Arts at East Sydney Technical College (now NAS) instead. At 25 having travelled and freelanced around a bit she was curious about what a real job with real pay might feel like and quickly found herself working in film and TV production, where she stayed for over two decades.

In 2017, Genevieve and her family moved from inner-west Sydney to Dangar Island on the Hawkesbury River, Dyarubbin, where they live surrounded by an ever-shifting landscape of light, colour and natural beauty. This much-needed connection to the bush and the vast expanse of river has been the catalyst Genevieve needed to fulfill a long-held promise to herself...

Art and the landscape are once again in full focus.
