The ocean is vast and unknowable. This artwork explores the way in which humans attempt to map the ocean, from the movement of tides to the geography of the ocean floor. The lines that trace the coast flatten the ocean, evoking the lines of a cartographer mapping the landscape. Mapping the ocean is extremely significant in the relationship between humanity and the sea, as it will help determine weather patterns, assist in understanding tsunamis, and illuminate the lives of the creatures that live in the murky depths. But this knowledge comes at a price; mapping the depths of the ocean could open new possibilities of exploitation in a previously untouched landscape.
